Tommy Wiseau's THE ROOM in Houston

I'm sure you are familiar with our infatuation with Tommy Wiseau's The Room. Though we haven't reviewed it in earnest, it is embedded in our psyches, in the mission statement of our website. It is WHO WE ARE. Our devotion to the movie is extremely well documented.

In any case, if you're in the Houston area and want to see Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero IN PERSON then you should go to the screenings of The Room at the River Oaks Theatre on December 14 and 15, 2012. You can buy tickets here.

Here's the promo image I pulled off of the Official The Room Website, where it was somehow even more pixely and distorted.

The Computer Business Is Too Competitive

Since Your Stupid Minds is almost entirely about The Room now (aside from an actual review) I'd like to point out that Tom Fulp of Newgrounds made a fully playable homage to the film.

It's a fantastic tribute; a fully playable run through of the plot with loads of Easter Eggs, references, and alternate plots. Since the game is entirely from Johnny's perspective, certain key scenes are not included. When Peter [SPOILER ALERT] nearly throws Mark [SPOILER] off the [SPOILER] roof, Johnny goes into the kitchen to make sandwiches for his chums. After the lengthy sandwich-making sequence, Johnny returns to the room to discover they are nowhere to be found.

Fulp and crew clearly put a lot of effort into this game, and everything is so pitch-perfect it ends up being an especially enjoyable experience for those of us who've seen The Room 30-40 times. The MIDI soundtrack has been stuck in my head for the last two days. Definitely give this a run through if you have a half hour to spare.

Update: The Room is still a bad movie

Patton Oswalt + Tommy Wiseau's The Room = A YSM Post

It's totally worth it for the celebrity cameo at the end.

THE ROOM post-mortem

The Alamo Drafthouse's showing of THE ROOM was quite awesome. People weren't as rowdy as I thought they'd be, but the Drafthouse did show about 3 clips before the showing about how bad it is to talk during the movie. I don't think they quite "get" THE ROOM yet. They'll catch on.

There were plenty of HI DENNYs and BYE DENNYs, one BECAUSE YOU'RE A WOMAN, and I could distinctly hear the clatter of plastic spoons. I also got the giggles during the 4th sex scene and could not stop. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience. The Drafthouse said that it's going to make this a monthly thing. I am so there.

I did manage to get video of Tommy Wiseau's Q&A, and his answers are predictably incoherent. Watch him dodge questions about his ethnicity, toss the football around, and rave about the "Austin-style" chicken caesar salad.

THE ROOM showing at Alamo Drafthouse

I immediately bought tickets when I found out about this.

THE ROOM with Tommy Wiseau Live

It's Wednesday, May 6th at the Alamo Ritz in downtown Austin. I would encourage you to find any means to get there. If you haven't seen Tommy Wiseau's The Room, well you should. Words cannot describe how terrible and awesome it is. Here are some clips. You'll want to expand the post and watch all of them.

Seriously. Go.
